Modern Arnis, a dynamic Filipino martial art emphasizes double and single stick fighting and empty hand applications including joint locks, disarms and throws.
This popular, efficient, easy-to-learn system is offered twice a week here at Mejishi. It attracts serious martial artists of diverse disciplines, as well as beginners
and can be effectively learned by those who require less kicking than karate.
During the last 20 years of his life, Grandmaster Remy Presas, founder of Modern Arnis, conducted yearly seminars at Mejishi Martial Arts. Professor Presas was often
featured in Blackbelt and Inside Kung Fu magazines. One of the world's top authorities on Filipino Martial Arts, he was author of books and videos on the subject of
Arnis. Presas brought martial artists of many styles closer, spreading cooperation and togetherness through his art. We are proud to continue his work at our studio.
Jaye Spiro, Mejishi Head Instructor, tested and earned the rank of fourth degree black under Professor Presas in 1998. She currently trains weekly in Balintawak Escrima
with Manong Ted Buot, one of the foremost experts in this art. Manong Ted received Balintawak directly from
Anciong Bacon in Ceibu City, Phillipines. Balintawak body mechanics, technique, timing and strategy has improved and embellished the work we do here in our stick fighting program.
Since its beginnings, Mejishi has hosted seminars featuring internationally known instructors. Besides the late Grandmaster Remy Presas, Kat Puno Bong Jornales,
Professor Dan Anderson, Dr. Maung Gyi, Datu Tim Hartman and many others have conducted brilliant workshops at our location. Students and instructors with a passion
for blade, stick, empty hand and self-defense knowledge have attended Mejishi seminars. Mejishi is a member of the World Modern Arnis Alliance. Check out our
calendar for our next exciting seminar. Join our mailing list to receive notification of upcoming special events.
