History
For 28 years Sensei Jaye Spiro, director of Mejishi, has taught Ai Mute Shotokan Karate, an American version of the traditional Japanese form of Shotokan Karate. She is the ranking student of 7th degree black belt Sensei Bobby Peeler, who developed this form from his own studies in the martial arts, his roots in practical self defense in an urban setting and many years in the tournament circuit.

Students of all skill and fitness levels are welcome. Beginning white belts have an opportunity to study two times per week. After achieving yellow stripe, students can participate in 2 more classes per week, including a weekly sparring session. Read about the workout you'll get.

For Adults
Karate is more than a good workout, and students enjoy the sense of accomplishment that comes with achieving advancement in rank. Read more about why people choose to study a martial art instead of taking kickboxing classes or joining a gym.

For Youth
Karate is a very positive after-school alternative for young people age 4 and up. We foster a safe, community atmosphere where kids are encouraged to focus and hone their skills, to respect their peers and their seniors and to work hard for a goal and feel the thrill of empowerment once they've reached it. In Karate we also practice techniques that help youth feel confident about themselves as they assert their views in their daily lives.

FREE INTRO  KARATE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE:      Jan 28, Mar 31, Apr 28, Jun 30, Sept 8 and Oct 27, 2008.
